Ask most kids what their favorite part of summer is, and one of their top answers is, “No School!” But most teachers would tell you that while a break from the books is good, too long without engaging your brain can allow some of that learning to come leaking back out. I think that to some degree, the same holds true for learning at church. I am not advocating school or AWANA 12 months a year (our leaders need the break to keep up with the kids!), but I would like to see an opportunity for the kids of KBC to keep their brain and their spirit engaged in developing their faith.
To this end, this summer we are going to experiment with a discipleship series we are calling, “Soakin’ up the Son.” This series is designed for kids entering 2nd through 6th grades. We will be using materials from the publisher Discipleland (http://www.discipleland.com), which will focus on developing the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. We will be using the “My Jungle Adventure” workbooks, where the kids will join Dee, Cy, Paul, and their devoted dog Chip on a safari led by their seasoned guide, Carlos. Along the way, we’ll discover the secret of abiding in the Vine and bearing the fruit of the Spirit based on Bible studies of John 15 and Galatians 5, among others.
The workbook series consists of 12 lessons. It is not necessary to attend all 12 sessions; you can always cover “missed” lessons at home as a family. And of course, our time together will include fun and friends along with the learning! The details: |
